Many of the people that we have worked with here at HTYC tend to go through several career changes on their own. They try many of the traditional job search methods, and they don’t see lasting results. Usually, they start excited about their new role, but then, at some point, start realizing that something is off. Sometimes the role or company doesn’t match your values. Sometimes the role doesn’t match your strengths. Laura Parker used to work for a global law firm for 12 years, and made a change to this technology company 2 years ago. It didn’t take long for her to realize that she needed to make another change, and that’s where she found this podcast. But I’m getting ahead of her story. Many high performers work hard to climb the corporate ladder. Reaching an executive level is a crowning achievement. Or is it? Dan Ruley had worked his way up to become the Director of Sales, but (another) conflict arose between family and work, leading to him losing his job. Re-evaluating his priorities, he learned that an executive level role wasn’t right for him and, even though his new role is technically a step down, he now makes more and is able to focus on what he does best.
